Learning to sew ... take 2

i have my second sewing class tonight

with my new bff's  Carissa and Ramona at the Shop Next Door

i somehow ... never seem to walk out without something

and the girls... Carissa and Ramona are a hoot...

you will fall in love with them

like i did

even though they have never actually claimed that they are...

hmmm...

i have been longing for the coast lately ...

a little place called Oak Island

it is where i married my husband ...

it is where we went on weekends when we wanted to

 get away from the city

it is where deep down ...

i just always knew

it would never leave my heart

yep that kind of place ...

there is just something about it ...

perhaps it's

the little cottage houses with white fences and American flags

or

the way you can open your door and just smell the ocean ...

the way the locals talk slow with a southern drawl

*sigh*

yes today ... i miss the coast

A Peak ...

in case you all have been wondering where I have gone

here is a peak

i have been busy this past week

preparing for my Inspired Evening Event

which starts in about 9 hours ...

yes I am at that point...  counting down the hours

so I know exactly when all the polly pockets need to be

picked up and the high chair moved out of sight ...

ugh ... not an easy task decorating the house with a

3 year old and 11 month old

but...

it is going to be great!

 here is a tiny weeny sneak peak for all

you who couldn't make it tonight...

Hitting the Road ...

today .. i am heading home

home as in my parents house

it's a 3 hour drive ...

but

well worth the three hours

you see my parents town is well...

it is small and perfect

the kind of town that has no stoplights ...

it has one park ...

everybody knows everybody

the kind of town that kids can walk to the pool

they can play bike tag all over town

you have to walk uptown to get your mail

and the best part ...

if it is a really calm night you can sit on the

front porch and hear the wind mills turning just outside

of town.

                                                 

yes ... it is that kind of town.

Light up the night ...

so simple

hanging jar lanterns

i am sure most of you

                                       have jars sitting in your recycling bin ...

pull them out and make some lanterns ...

it only takes minutes and you will love them.

Here is what you need ...

a few jars of any size

floral wire or any heavier gauge wire

a needle nose pliers

 tea light candles

How To ...

 Take any size glass jar with a lip just below the top 

•Next, take a long piece of wire (about 24 inches is good) and bend it around the jar just under the lip so that a ring is formed. With the needle nose pliers twist the wire together close to the jar to secure the ring. When tightening the wire be sure to leave a little give so that you can attach the handle.

•Once the ring is created you will have 2 approximately 8 inch long wires originating from the point where the circle is twisted closed.


•Bend the excess wires over the top of the jar and attach them to the wire ring to create a handle.


•Place a votive candle inside the jar.


•Hang it in a tree with sturdy branches, far enough from the end of the branch, so the jar won't slip off in the wind.

Discovering ...

i have a pen pal ...

yep

we have never met

we do not even know what each other looks like
i do not even know her last name

we have never spoken over the phone

only through letters...

well letters through email

( although hand written letters would be so much better )

hmmm...

anyways...

i have a friend ... who has a friend ...

who was struggling

in a way that was familiar to me

you see she just had her first baby and she was slowly

discovering that though she was gaining something...

she was slowly losing another thing...

HERSELF

all you mothers i know you know ...

and so ...

we write.

daily.

we lift each other

we have no filters

we write from our hearts... we do not hesitate on what words to put down

we each sift through each others ramblings to discover the core

because you see... we have this thing...

A UNSPOKEN truth of sorts

I'm here for you... you here for me

And it is so refreshing.

perhaps one day i will share some of our letters...

they are ... BEAUTIFUL.

not because we are great writers...

but simply due to the fact that we are just two women

speaking truth to one another...

we are two women sharing with each other.

we are honest

we are keeping it real

and today i encourage all of you to do the same.
